Our Vision
IIn 1990, Ralph Yanello, a lawyer with years of experience, realized that the traditional delivery of legal services was inefficient and costly. And, because of these barriers, many well-meaning employers ended up in court because they didn't know how to navigate the complex web of employment laws.
So, Ralph started to research a new concept - how to make the law easy and affordable to access through automation.
Our Challenge
In 1994, Ralph brought together a team of California lawyer-writers and formed LawRoom. We started building an employment law library from scratch. But, we had help. We formed a strategic alliance with Littler Mendelson, America's largest employment law firm to review our work for relevance and accuracy.
Beyond providing clear information, we tackled one more major hurdle: how to instantly provide tailored answers that integrate the conflicting and overlapping requirements of California and federal laws into one answer. It was a daunting task because it had never been done.
Undaunted, we developed proprietary software that carefully considers specific aspects of a company's profile. This allows LawRoom to do something that no one else does: instantly provide tailored answers.
Our Growth and the Future
In 1996--after spending 40,000 hours building the library and application--LawRoom launched an automated fax-back service for employers.
In 2000, we converted to the Internet and grew from 400 corporate members to 15,000 by 2008 with over 30,000 users in all 50 states. In 2004 we added online training to our services, and trained over 1,700 companies on Anti-Harassment and a host of employment law related subjects.
Our Goal
In providing weekly updates and customized answers to over 6,000 questions, coupled with training, our goal is to help employers understand their legal rights and obligations. While we do not replace lawyers or offer legal advice, we do provide accurate, clear, and concise answers so that employers can make more informed decisions.
